M&C, Wed Mar 18 19:48:57 EDT 2009
Colombo - Sri Lanka's opposition leader Ranil Wickremesinghe who signed a Norwegian-backed peace deal with Tamil rebels as the country's prime minister in 2002, is under pressure from his own party to step down, local newspapers said Wednesday.

 Get Ranil out!
It’s high time that Ranil gets out.
What we need is a strong, senior politician that openly supportes the action of the present government’s war against terror. Someone that could continue the work of the present government without selling out the country when UNP takes over.
I suggest Lakshman Senewiratne. He is sure to follow the father’s footsteps and do what he believes in. He would make a good leader.

Ranil will probably survive this time round too. He is a master in this game and the class he represents will protect him. It is said that now they are going to have a senior leader position. There will be plenty of leaders like in our cabinet & finally Ranil will call the shots.

Didn’t he? stays as the leader. Birth day boy has got his present. In the game of political chess RW is only second to MR. That’s the very reason he continues to be the leader of the UNP.

What can I say about the dire state of UNP and if Ranil is the only guy? In a country where there are no birds, even a crow is considered a bird! 'Paksheen nathi rate Kaputa the Pakshiyeki!'

Under RW admin, our brave LRRP was betrayed. That was the worst national betrayal of our land. Let him be the leader of UNP. That will ensure he will never get what he has been trying to achieve for decades.

The invertebrate should have resigned honorably when he lost the presidential election. Even while the rats were abandoning his ship, he had an opportunity to infiltrate the government which he did not seize. My guess is he likes to be in the opposition because he gets all the perks without the responsibility,

Romeo, you have to know that this guy is a fighter and a survivor. But the problem is he only fights for his own survival and not for any other course

RW is buying time. There are two things that he knows very well. Firstly after the war if the MR administration cannot deliver the goods to the people then the administration will get unpopular. Secondly the Sri Lankan voter has a very short memory, and they could easily swing to him putting him on the pedestal. So he will simply hang on until that day is dawn.

Will not happen. The only way the UNP will come back is with a leader who can identify with the pulse of the people and have the guts to defend the peoples interests.
After the high of the past couple of years while whipping the "invincible" ltte, it will be asking too much from the electorate to vote for the trecherous worm again.

Yes, I am with you Gampaha. I remember how JR invigorated UNP in 1977 and came to power. Even MR, worked hard with instruments like 'Pada Yathra' Mothers frunt and mobilized Masses to come to power.
RW can't even hold a candle to them

The power is shifting from the westernized Sinhalese from Colombo to thugs like Sinhalese from the urban.
