We cannot blame Sec. Clinton. We shouldnt even argue as to why they dont do the same thing with Isreal/ Gaza or US/ Afghan.
The reason is simply, Sen. Clinton is a politician and represents a politician. Politicians make statement for political reasons.

The reason for her call is the recent letter signed by US congressmen and senators. And the reason for these senators and congressmen to write the letter is the pro-LTTE tamil lobby in USA.

While LTTE is organising political rallies and protests daily in European capitals and Canada,  there is very little effort to counter the LTTE propaganda.  None of these rallies/ protests are done by 'ordinary' Tamils. The protests are arranged, coordinated and executed by the LTTE operatives. LTTE flags are in each and every one of these rallies.

Write to the local representative, local news paper and political operatives and explain how LTTE is waging a false-propaganda and how they are killing the very Tamils they claim to safe-guard.

Sen. Clinton made that phone call, becuase LTTE had done its homework and the other side has not-

I think these people are trying to show the world that they are against HR violations to cover up their HR violations in other countries like Afghanistan and Iraq. They have found Sri Lanka is an ideal place to pick on because we are heavily dependent on foreign aids and they can say whatever they want using Sri Lanka as a scape goat. How come they were silent when thousands of civilians were killed in Gaza due to indiscriminate bombing by Israel? When Russia was bombing Chechnya? Aren't we doing the same thing trying to eliminate one of the worst ruthless terrorist group in the world? But the difference is we have gone out of our way to protect innocent civilians. You think US, Russia or China would have waited this long to capture or kill the LTTE terrorists confined to such a small area now? If US knew exactly where Bin Laden is hiding, do you think they will hesitate to bomb because of civilian casualties? Talk about hypocrisy!!

Welcome to reality.

If you are a poor third world country living off hand outs from the West... you got to jump when they say jump. Isn't it the same in Sri Lankan socity too...? Different sets of rules for the rich and poor.

There was also a pro-Elam/LTTE group "US Tamils for Clinton" I believe - who raised funds for her bid for the Presidency. So....

There is a different spin by the government media about Clinton's statement.
It appears Clinton thanked government for their fight against terrorism Smile

Which side you guys want to believe?

Here is the transcript of this statement:
http://www.state.gov/r/pa/prs/ps/2009/03/120341.htm

Basically it is a good political statement and portion of it can be used by each party for their advantage.
