$27,000 is not a presidential fine.

Quoted from Hindu

Quote:
In a landmark judgment delivered on Wednesday, Sri Lanka's former president Chandrika Kumaratunga was fined by the country's Supreme Court for illegally allocating state land to a private golf course project.

Kumaratunga, the country's president from 1994 to 2005, was fined 3 million rupees ($27,000) and ordered to pay compensation to the state for allocating land meant for public purposes located near the parliamentary complex for a golf course.

It is the first time in 30 years that presidential powers have been challenged successfully in the Supreme Court. During his/her time in office, the president enjoys immunity against any legal action, Sri Lanka's constitution says.

Supreme Court Chief Justice Sarath N. Silva ordered the cancellation of the golf course project and the return of the land to the state.

There will be a time when we will investigate Mihin Air and other dubious deals too! Notice served to the Brothers and Company!!!! I still dont understand how petty thieaves who rob coconuts come out of Police station with a few bones fractures but these high flying and political connected get away with a mere fine.

She should have received a jail sentence. This fine is like Rs.300 for her.

We want Mahinda's record to be scrutinized this way as well.

Most of us are NOT married to one candidate.

Negombo, this is a widely prevailing patented process in the whole region..   Wink

Here are some more stash haven names if you want -   St Kitts, luxembourg ..

and some like bunker occupants and saddams and arafats - they all stash it away
in some secret vaults hidden from humans, sun, air, water and fire..

I don't care whether Mahinda is corrupt or not. He is the only leader who has the guts to go after the LTTE killers which is the No:1 priority in SL right now. What did CBK do? She came to power promising her first priority was to solve the LTTE crisis but she wasted two terms doing nothing except increasing her personal wealth.

Chandrika's secretary defence addressed Tamil Shelvam "Machan". Pottu Amman addressed Chandrika "our madam"
