This failed attack comes as no surprise to anyone following this meaning less war: LTTE is badly in need of some sort of moral booster to keep its foreign funders happy. It has had to face one debacle after another in the military as well as international fronts. Moreover it has never been able to conduct any large scale military operation since Karuna left it. In such situations ltte has always resorted to such spectacular attacks. More is sure to come and lots of innocent civilians will lose their lives. I hope civilians of all communities will help the security forces to apprehend the culprits.

Agree, It is high time this ltte elected gov, provides tamils with political solutions.

However, The only negotiated outcome the “ national leader” is interested is one that makes him king in a Taliban style elam. Lots of sane sri lankan tamils (living in Sri Lanla) are not interested in living in barran Jaffna. Nither are the tamils of the east willing to live under the control of jaffna.

LTTE have proved that they can still hit the heart of the south in the face of their own lawful (nose!) air forces.
They claimed that they only targeted military base and not civilians, & it is another credit for them.
they way they claimed that they have used their l(f)ighter flight? and returned safe to vanni then it is also true, that is utter shame for the Air Forces and its controller backups.
How the hell they escaped from any radar on their way in and out?
Also as some one mentioned, definitely it will be another advertising stunt from LTTE for another round of collection overseas and it is going to work well.
Summer approaching soon in many part of Europe and Canada where we can see numerous events with some aircraft pictures.

MR also proved that it is well worth spending millions for his luxury bunker in the south. Also the second Airport in-case one shutdown for “illegal operations failure” ?!!
[Or entire attack staged under VP/MR pact, just to justify the above costs??]
I think it is better to have many missiles near airports /harbours and schools than stink parliament where all the devils gather.
If not LTTE, one day a true Srilankan Air force hero will use his aircraft to say good bye to that holly s#$@ called “lawfully elected ?!!?!!?” !!

End of the day, any thing can be revealed, even the damage could have caused by an electrical burst, but LTTE has taken the advantage over the situation like many in the past. While I am writing this or you reading this, some SLAF jets must have already bombarding some area belongs to north or east for more wire news.

How is the CSE doing this morning. Any gains? What will happen to the tourist arrivals? Sri Lankan economy?

There is no military solution to this problem.

?Ability to launch attacks at night.
? Ability to GET AWAY without retaliatory fire or chase
?  Inability of SLAF and . in GOSL to give a cohesive response to this blatant attack by planes. Planes whether they are small or not can  be detected if there was intelligence. And what happened to the much talked about low altitude radar we got from India?
EGG In face for MR and war effort while it was definitely a morale boosting effort for VP.  Whatever said and done, our politikkas cannot scream when an Airport is closed and flights are diverted .THAT GOT INTERNATIONAL attention.

The trouble is tamils like you who abandoned sri lanka, and who fund and fuel this war. What do you want give the gov. some excuse to attack kilinochchi? It is the tamil civilians of the north and east that suffer the most from this senseless war.

for the LTTE to have chosen the airport as a target knowing full well it has much better air defense/detection system than any other place, means that either
1) they were willing to risk losing the planes
2) confident of eluding the radar
3) knew some hole in the radar system from someone inside??
4) paid someone off to look the other way when those planes showed up on the radar???

Even countries not at war have basic radar to detect planes flying in, of all places, the airport.. so it's not a question of the government lacking equipment.. I bet MR going to appoint another commisson to investigate this so nobody is held accountable..

Air Attack by LTTE?

This action would sure send an electric shock through MR's spine when he and his supporters thought that LTTE was on the run.

LTTE gained what they wanted inspite of the little physical damage it caused

1. news headings around the world, about their capability of carrying out an aerial attack

2. morale boost for the LTTE carders who have got into the habbit of running away when the SLA attacks

3. one hell of a story to tell at the fund collections abroad to replenish the large quanities of weapons that got buried in the deep seas recently

All the budget allocations, military hardware procurements full use of all the government machinery and with the full support of the international community have ended up in zero. We have also expended all the international goodwill as we clearly stated recently not to interfere in our internal matters.

Mr Sangagiri and other airforce leaders claimed to be very proud of their contribution to this country. You are bleeding Sri Lanka we can not even get our side inorder

If you keep on this course it will gurantee that LTTE will keep progressing further with more formidable power.... may be it is decision time?

LTTE is the worldwide cutting edge Terrorism.  They inspire other Terror groups around the world to be more spectacular.
As long as they can exploit the Tamils around the world carry out the mission of a sick few, they will continue to do things like that.

Wake up call to the world to rally against LTTE and make all fund raising avenues dry and put LTTE supporters right next to Islamic extremists in Guantanamo Bay.

LTTE inspired Oklahoma City bombing, USS cole attack, most Iraqi violence, Al Qaida attacks and now air strikes.

don't forget to give substantial credits to SLG as well. they helped ltte to grow over three decades. look at Nepal, they learned  very important lesson from SL. so we all teach lessons to others but never learn ourselves. what a great culture.
