This should help allay Mr. Karunanidhi's fears

Proximus is right. This is a good move both by the GOSL and Indians.

The Indian Government is a very passive government... they are so ignorant to certain things and then always act too late... like with nurturing the LTTE, until they assassinate the "hand that feeds them"... then it's all about, we are against LTTE... even though the GoSL have always warned them about it...

Similarly, the GoSL requested that the Indian Government help Sri Lanka in patrolling that sea, cos many of the LTTE resources come over those seas... but they refused... and now, here we finally have the Indians waking up...

I suppose, later is better than never... this is a smart move on the GoSL behalf... we need to stop or even filter that area of resources smuggling... All Sri Lankans, dream of the day that Vanni is isolated and surrounded… hope this helps in that aim…

Post Indian Navy in SL boats
This is about killing of the fishermen. Hope the killing will stop by the SL navy here after. May be they will learn that you can have the gun but use for safety rather than using it because you have it.
By the way can Karunanidi stop the agreement that US did with SL. What kind of a mean bloke he is. The chinese have started the work in SL so are the Americans. India is just watching the orgy of political prostitution.

The day this incident is alleged to have taken place, there had been no naval patrols in the area. Furthermore, the boats are equipped with GPS and electronic navigational equipment that make sure the boats do not cross over into Indian sea even by accident. It looks as if this was staged by someone. I think I know who the suspects are.  Very Happy

Seem like you have forgoten the past , When Indians fighting against LTTE (almost wipe out the LTTE) Singhalese Government in Colombo helped the LTTE to fight against the Indians.

The "killing of Indian fishermen by SLN" is an alleged incident at this point. Nothing has been proven.

The presence of Indians aboard SLN vessels will provide a deterrent to both SLN (if they are indeed guilty of such an act) as well as to other parties who stand to gain by such murder., i.e. the LTTE who will certainly profit from a souring of relations between India and SL

Agree; in fact I don't see any souring of relations for any extent of time. Both nations have sufficient contacts to defuse and get on. This joint patrolling venture is an example. If this doesn't work another way may be found.

Well, this can be definitely perceived as a good move as PROXIMUS and several others pointed out., but I am bit cautious about this, LTTE already told they will attack any ship whether it is civilian or otherwise.  If a patrol navel craft is attacked when Indian officials on board, India can directly involved in the War.  This is my fear.

This should have been done a long time ago. It will help integrate and coordinate patrolling in our waters making it even harder for the LTTE to ship things and it will help protect innocent fisherman too. Having indian naval officers on board will also make the LTTE think twice about attacking them, lest they start another problem for themselves lol.

A good move by the governments'. And even for India it is a pretty good non-confrontational way of getting more involved. It won't be long before the LTTE proxies start pleading to stop the whole thing, citing some stupid excuse (ex. SL navy ships are not sea-worthy enough to accomadate indian naval officers, SL navy officers will kill the indians. lol)

This is a very tricky.  Indians are petroling with Sri Lankans on Sri Lankan waters to make sure Indians won't be shot at.  This is bad diplomacy.  Indians should trust SL government.  Never heard of joint petrol of US and Russians so that US won’t hit them.

On the other hand, it is a creative way of shutting the voice of TN politicians.
LTTE will not care whether Indians on board or now if they want to attack SL vessels.  Even if Indians get shot at or killed, Indian government won't do a darn thing against LTTE.

I think this is the only reason this is happening.

GOSL can say 'look it's a joint patrol' effort.

Ind will find a creative way to say what it can.
Maybe smog or fog or something. Or Ind can even keep quiet. In the background they
can try to see better ways to handle fishermen venturing far.

the TN politicians ( read Vaikos and co. ) will have nothing new to scream about.
If any they'll blame Karunanidhi and Delhi for not doing more, and it won't work much.

It's about time the l.t.t.e realised they'll be outwitted always and it's better they
unwind to peaceful ways.
