afp, Tue Mar 6 17:01:41 EST 2007
COLOMBO (AFP) - Sri Lanka's police admitted Tuesday that its own security personnel have been involved in kidnappings for ransom and vowed to crack down on mounting abductions and killings of civilians. Police Inspector General Victor Perera said a "large number" of police officers and troops had been arrested on charges of abduction and extortion. His remarks came as five bullet-riddled bodies of unidentified men turned up in the north central district of Anuradhapura Tuesday following a similar discovery of five bodies near the capital on Saturday.

Unless the state claen this mess up, all the sacrifices the men and women of the SL armed forces made, and continue to make, will go up in flames.
That doesnt mean those who provide logistical support for the terrorists and hide behind the curtain claiming to be 'civilians' should be spared.

Why all of a sudden, he has to open his eye ? Are there any donors meetings on scheduled ? Until some one like pevious post justify the killings on the name of "tamils (& some sinhalse) are terrorists" Poor Victor cant do any thing other than a official statement or word of mouth.

If Victor Perera is Catholic, he will be declared as LTTE.
Will see how brilliant Mahida Brian will work.

Now that the cat is out of the bag, maybe we should figure out why this became such a full-blown menace. Why did criminal behavior among the police and the soldiers reach the point where it may be considered endemic?? Isn't it reasonable to assume that there is a correlation between MR's ascension to the throne and this mess? Did the soldiers think that they had carte blanche to whatever they did so long as the victims were Tamils? Was there a message sent out by strangers night in Colombo that it was open season on the Tamils?

I demand the immediate dismiss of the Police Chief.
He is either in the Mangala Camp or UNP payroll.
Honourable President clearly said abduction did not happen.
By admitting the role of Police and Ranaviru the Police Chief exposed the truth.
There were 1000 reported abductions in 2006, let alone unreported ones.
Now, it looks that the President doesn't know arithmatic, that at least one reported abduction every 8 hours.
We can't let this lier, the Police Chief to defame our Human Right Champion President.

 IGP had been mis-reported
AFP will be accused by Rambuttanwella for mis-reporting what the IGP had said.
Surely it cannot be true.

I also agree this IGP should be sacked and punished.
He should be in Mangala/Sirirpathi gang or UNP gang. If not he should be a LTTE supporter.
When His exalency the president saya no abductions, how can the IGP say "There are abductions and they are done by some of our bad gyes".
He is going to be a bar to the "democracy and freedom " that Mahinda and Gotabhaya going to bring to our country.
Cick him out and arrest him !!!

Where is everybody??? Feel so lonely here on the forum despite such a revelation by the IGP himself. Where is everyone who sings the usual hosannas and praises for the "valiant soldiers fighting the terrorists"?
