    Secretary to the Ministry of Defence, Gotabhaya Rajapakse said that an investigation into Sinhala LTTE cadres had revealed that there were several Sinhala women who underwent training in the handling of arms under the LTTE.

They have so far evaded arrest but will be tracked soon, he told The Island yesterday.

According to the information divulged by the male Sinhala LTTE cadres, now under the arrest, several female Sinhala cadres had undergone LTTE training in places yet to be disclosed.

Is this allegation included current ruling MPs? Well former minister (Sripathi) within the cabinet should have more answer than any forum members, I believe.

“Sripathi Sooriyarachchi, one of the three-sacked ministers by President Mahinda Rajapakse recently alleged at a press conference that he has evidence that the government struck a secret deal with the LTTE during the presidential election period.”

Aside for stealing the scepter this wretch should be charged with treason for witholding such information until he was sacked.

Highly unlikely. Racism is part of contemporary Sinhala culture and is evident in all spheres of life in sl from state employment down to busses stopping at bus halts. As such, I expect that a Tamil woman is far far far more likely to be detained than a Sinhalese one, and if a Sinhalese woman's ID gets anything more than a cursory glance, I would be very surprised.

I agree with SJ. I don't beleive that it is possible for Sinhalese civilians to support LTTE, even for money. It could either be "LTTE trained their own people to fake as Sinhalese" or "Mr GR has other things in mind when he said this." The politicians are politicians. But the ordinary Sinahalese people are not stupid as being portrayed by many.

I think it quite possible that members of left wing Sinhalese groups took advantage of free training offered by the LTTE, though why the LTTE should offer it is beyond me.

The story as it is unfolding makes me very suspicious. Reminds me of the confessions to terrorism the Brits made on Saudi TV some years back, that I referred to in another thread.

The assumption that no Sinhalese can be LTTE is the wrong one.  The activities of human beings forms a spectrum or fall into a bell curve of any kind.  We are looking at what statisticians called outliers since they are outside the mainstream.  I have met Tamils who speak only Sinhalese and they are very sympathetic towards Sinhalese than Tamils.

Like TOSCA speculated, GR may be thinking about Mangala and other people like Yalalath Yayawardana when he made that statement.

If the price is right, any Sinhalese Politician will work for LTTE and fight with them too.
