There was no independent confirmation of the report and there was no response from the rebels,

Since SLMM is not there now, I guess, these 'independent persons' can not be near LTTE gun positions,Idea

What exactly is the strategic values of a frontal assault and why hurry? Lets take them from the south side, just as it was done in Vakarai.  Supply lines are not as hard as the north and FDL is even longer than Vakarai. SL forces have the clear advantage of covert operations here.  Don't let the pride overcome the sensibility.  We need a political solution (a decent proposal at least) first while stabilizing the east.  Help Karuna's party to become legitimate (not by force but winning hearts, justice, dignity, and inclusiveness in the SL society) reps of the people of east. Have a representative number of Tamils in SL military.  Then try to take on the Vanni. If we remove the reason to fight  and  the will to fight, we may need not to do too much of fighting.

There isn't a dog's chance in hell of that happening, unless the JVP and SLMCC choose him as their local leader. His group has no support North of Trnico, and whatever support he had in Batticola was greatly weaked by the Midnight Mass Murder of the TNA MP.

Dear Dear Jones,

I totally disagree, Because Every Dog has his Day!  Have you done a survey to say that Karuna lost support after the suspected killing of LTTE Proxy TNA MP.  If your argument s correct then no one will support the terror group LTTE, because they killed More Tamils than any one.
