Whatever the credibility he has as a matured politician, gets diluted with his references to :

1) work done by Mrs B, SWRDB, CBK
2) 21,000 majority he got for Manida R in Attanagalle
3) that he scolded in filth to the anonimous caller when called for the second time

He should remember that Sigiriya is the great work by one of the most useless kings in the history of Sri Lanka (like himself among the long list of politicians in modern Sri Lanka). Those days, the useless leaders atleast did some thing like good artwork.

It is true that some accidents take place...........even Bill Clinton had a girl by the name Monica L working in his office...........but please dont insult that lady Mrs B who is dead and gone.

She came into politics from nowhere - but handled the problems in a much more efficient manner than any other leaders since independance.

She even defeated R Prema in '88 presidential election, if not for the JVP enforced election boycott in south which UNP used in their favour to stuff the ballot boxes. The same Prema who won with JVP help, removed the whole JVP.

Do not insult Mrs. B she was indeed a very virtuous woman of traditional mould; (albeit governed with very bad socialist policies)and it is rather hypocritical for you to stoop so low when you can analyze AB on his OWN conduct.

That is pathetic low class libel. Some of you fellows who murder the English language in this forum probably would not be professors, top shot doctors etc in the West if not for SWRD's affirmative action policies!! And no matter what any profound genius with an inferiority complex utters anything here, around  the world no one made Ceylon/SL as famous as she did and even today in Europe and in nations  that were our old allies, they always ask about Mrs B and not about JR, Premedasa, or Mahinda R.

Mrs B did beat Premedasa (he is the one who attacked Mrs B in parliament with that sort of language) and if not for the UNP terror, and JVP terror she would have won the Presidential election and we would not be fighting Tigers still.  She lost because in the deep south which was heavily favored to go to her in some seats like Matara, Beliatta polling percentages were in SINGLE DIGITS and was absurd.  Only a few cast their votes because of JVP and UNP terror; and that is how Premedasa won.  If you want to talk facts go read (that is if you are able to) the ELECTION STATISTICS on that election.   Lets talk also about JR's rigged referendum if you want to talk facts Gomreivw without your low class libel.

On the other hand, AB has always been a non-starter waste of oxygen wherever he was.  He always had this desire to get attention to himself either drunk like he was when his sister got married to Vijaya wanting to pick fights with his guests, or always drawing attention to himself.  A few months ago he ran off to be with his buddies in LA again claiming the LTTE was going to kill him. Now he contradicts himself by saying LTTE will not give him warning if they kill him.  Just because some equally drunk profound genius close to MR may have called to threaten him does not mean there is credible threats to a non-starter.  He jumped ship and took his own mother to courts and wants to quote what the father or mother did to be in his credit ?

The Buddha said we are all accountable for our actions and that no one can claim to be great because of how or to whom they were born. AB is a living in lala land talking about his parents sacrifices or the fact that Tamil Terrorists indeed try to kill his sister. When is that His own sacrifice? Has he ever done a honest days work or tie his shoe laces? Did he ever get his MP ship without his mother's party carving a special seat with a 3-member representation so that he could come to Parliament from Nuwara-Eliya Maskeliya?  Kobbekaduwa created that special seat just to get him into parliament and he in turn betrayed him in the Presidential election.  AB will not be an asset to anyone but more of a liability freeloading on people everywhere he goes.  AB is not a threat to anyone and MR does not have to protect his old buddy and close friend.  He on the other hand does injustice by CBK because CBK is the one which made the old Sinhala only Party into a national cohesive party and won with a landslide 69% of the vote and still a factor.  Without her making it a more open-minded party, SLFP will still be "also-ran" second best to the  UNP.

I wonder what the actual words were. Did he use English filth, Singhala filth, or Tamil filth? Does it have a different effect in different bhasawas?

Speaking in Sinhala the Minister who is known to be at odds with the President after his demotion in the recent Cabinet reshuffle said the anonymous caller threatened to hang him and Ports and Aviation Minister Mangala Samaraweera on light posts in Attanagalle and Matara if they conspired against the President.


“I have never received such calls in my political life spanning more than 30 years. I feared I would get such calls during the time of President Premadasa, but, I did not,” he said.


Mr. Bandaranaike said, he got the first call around 9 a.m. on Tuesday and initially considered it a joke. “But after five minutes there was a similar call from a different person and I blasted the fellow in the filthiest language. Later in the day, I went to my residence in Horagolla. There too my telephone operator had received similar calls” he said.

my point was AB is such a low dude who goes against his buddy MR and almost certainly controlled by Managala since he is such a  smart guy who knows how to get things by this jonah by controlling behind the scenes.

Any one sundry who can get some rupee coins like 2 or 5 can get into a public phone booth and call this jonah and if  I was the caller with this filth,
I may call again this jonah again and again though this .. is not even deserve in sit in front of a telephone. It looks really funny the way he accuse Basicl and Gota and all this is sour grapes.

Banda's regime is now in history and we are lucky that JRJ's foresight make us get away from those Hal Polu, Miris  polu regime which may have taken us to another North Korea by now.

Excellant comment by RogerThis. I had a thing or two to say to Gomreivw but you took the words right out of my mouth.

AB is indeed a freeloader and more a liability to the party he is in than an asset. Actually i dont think he ever was an asset to anyone. He grows fat eating off others. Did so with everyone and not once as he contributed anything meaningful to SL. If we see him in the news its when he has something to whine about as his friends get tired of his freeloading and BS.

Taking the overall situation into context though, if these calls were made by a nobody, then nothing special has to be done. but i doubt it is a prank call or someone fooling around. whoever it was, obtained his telephone numbers and were able to reach him personally, both at work and at his residence. I doubt these numbers are freely available. It must have been done by someone with the necessary connections and the necessary motivation to persue the matter.

i dont know if the president himself sanctioned such a thing. if he did, it is sad. but it is someone who is highly loyal to MR and his gov - not just a strong supporter, but someone willing to put alot on the line. I think it is a good idea if MR publicly condemns this and tell his supporters that such behavior is intolerable. not only does it hail a period of open violence in politics, but encourages regular people who takes their political affiliations too seriously to do the same. no matter what if there are disputes in the gov, the best means of settling it is open dialogue and if that fails, like MR said, it is best they leave the party or atleast remove themselves from cabinet if they do not want to go to the other side.

if in fact this whole thing is a ruse by AB to get him some media spotlight so he can whine some more about what his mummy and daddy and akki did just to get more votes of pity using his family name, then he is just doing his "thing" and no one should fret too much.
