    Colombo, Jan 29 (IANS) The US Monday asked Sri Lanka to weave a power-sharing formula to talk to the Tamil Tigers in a bid to end the dragging ethnic conflict, saying there could be no military solution.


 
"We hope Sri Lanka will seize the opportunity to forge a power-sharing proposal that can form the basis for talks with the LTTE (Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam) that could finally bring an end to (the) conflict," US ambassador Robert Blake told the Sri Lanka Development Forum here.

It doesn't make any sense. Then US should explain why they banned LTTE saying it is a terrorist organization. What happened to their zero tolerance on terrorism? Why are they fighting terrorism in Iraq and in Afghanistan? Does US think LTTE is the sole representative of Sri Lankan Tamils?

Mawrata u r missing the plot there!!!! US never wanted to ban LTTE as like other terrorist groups.  SL former and current politician rally around the world to ban LTTE.  Now the whole world is understand the double act by the SL government and realising the mistake.  You can hide the truth for long.

Here we go, a tamil pandith trying to tell the world how innocent the LTTE is. May be you want to take a good look at the pictures of innocent civilians killed in Jaffna a few week ago or try explaining to them why their food ship was attacked.

The GOSL would  like to talk to tamils,muslims and would come to decent agreement how to share the power among diferent ehnic group without devidindg  or separating the country BUT NOT WITH Terrorists like Prab's LTTE. GOSL will never listen to LTTE demands and it will be rooted   out soon.  You can see now LTTEs are looting the wrecked ship!!. That is a good ,opend example for any foolish person to understand.

Only 400k lives in Jaffna, while 2600k live with Sinhalese and other communities.  No Sinhalese wants their Tamil brothers and sisters to be harmed. LTTE are terrorists who kill innocent people showing the world a fake 'Ethnic problem'. LTTE do not want to have a peaceful solution. They want some cause to exist by killing.

World community should help the legitimate elected multi-ethnic Government of Sri Lanka to dis-arm these terrorists and serve the innocent people living in these areas before too late. Otherwise LTTE as now will join hands with Al-quida and will ruin the world with suicide bombers.

There should be no room for terrorism in the humane world.

We should be able to share power the same way the American share
power with the blacks. If not why not?

Before lynching the US one has to look into the speech made by Robert Blake.

TLA has cited a website called peacejournalism which has obviously quoted a few selected sentences from the speech. There is a report on today's Daily Mirror about the same speech indicating that the US is helping SL to boost its military strength. According to the Mirror, Blake has congratulated the President on the steps taken so far, promised to help in the fight against terrorism by curbing LTTE fundraising etc. and promised further support to strengthen SL forces. At the same time, Blake has emphasised that the ultimate solution to the problem is not military but political, and implied that the government must use the military gains to force the LTTE into negotiations.

Criticising the US as an enemy of SL without knowing what Blake has really said, as some have done here, is harmful to the interests of Sri Lanka.

It can serve one party only: the LTTE.

We all know that LTTE supporters have a very hard time believing that the LTTE is no good... the rest of the world understands that, but the supporters find the truth always "BITTER to swallow"...

If anyone is doing a double act, it's the US... Zero tolerance on terrorism... their need to force democracy... but here we have an US ambassador (based in SL) saying to have a power sharing agenda... the significance of this isn't too serious...

This is what intellectuals of all communities have been calling for. The US wants the government to talk to the tamils and not the LTTE. Moreover, as the LTTE does not control the east, negotiations with them would fail to address the issues of the eastern tamils.
