Post Independent voices being silenced in Sri Lanka
reliefweb.int,  Wed Jan 10 19:51:20 EST 2007

The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) is deeply concerned about the steady erosion of press freedom in Sri Lanka, following reports of the media being denied access to war zones, incidents of self-censorship and intimidation, and news journalists were forced to flee the country out of fear for their safety.

"The Sri Lankan media is increasingly struggling to operate freely and without fear in recent months, which is resulting in a significant decline in the number of independent voices in the country," IFJ President Christopher Warren said.

Everyone knows that all these MOVEMENTS (INGO/NGO) are living due to the WAR. All these organization along with arms dealers and their parent countries does not want to see an end to WAR in SL or for a fact any other country.

Anitwar movement or Press freedom or what ever the name, they hold placards against the WAR and killing while supporting the Blood-Thirsty-Tiger-Terrorist to continue the WAR.

Has any body seen a single board held against Sun-Goat asking to laydown arms, about child soldirs, about human rights.

The most sad part is due to Tigers, majority Civilians has lost their basic human rights. Can anybody move freely in Colombo or suburbs or walk even by the side of a road? All this is due to the terrorism and virtually minority has over taken majority of the living.

But everyone including the HRC talks about the Terrorist and they loath them.

What nonsense u r talking here Saviour?  What happened to the reporter who published the “The Great Bunker” story?  He even cross checked with the President's Secretary before he published!!!!  Even the Presi’s secretary doesn’t know what should be published and not!!!  Majority of the media(s) and the journalists are in that dilemma status there now!!!!

But you majority deafened by your biased media news and believing radical nationalist leaders don’t ever accept the blame for the current ethnic problem and keep on blaming LTTE and it supporters and day dreaming of PEACE in SL.

Really?

These people demonstrate to stop war.  Look at the names of people who went to share their thoughts.  When they had the first one, monks went for a punch up.  Interestingly, the punch-up happened when Mervyn de Silva was at the mic last time.  This time MdeS himself leads a team of thugs to punch his old comrades.

Actually there is a lot of money in the arm deals.  Pro war people are doing demonstrations because they may get some CUT there!

Utter shame!!

We have press freedom, look at tamilnet.

"Independent voice" is a very abused term.

The peace marches seem to be hired since they are silent when LTTE kills.

Here is a good example:
The people demanding the religious freedom in Sri Lanka are the ones who wants to control the what people want to learn in schools in US.

Today, pro-LTTE fights for Tamil rights with an organization that abused Tamil rights big time.

Unfortunately these terms are very political, it is a form of modern day bullying.

We all want peace and freedom.  We differ on how we want to get it.

Post dr mervin De Silva
(Dr ?) Mervin being a govt minister from Hambantota attacking the anti war front is a serious matter.

LTTE and other tamil organisations can use this for their benifit in front of the international community.
They can claim that this is good evidence that GoSL is not interested in any peace or even peace talks and press for recognition of eeeeelam.
