Post India's foreign minister, Sri Lankan leaders discuss island'
Associated Press,  Tue Jan  9 12:30:11 EST 2007

COLOMBO, Sri Lanka (AP) _ India's visiting foreign minister discussed Sri Lanka's faltering peace process with the island nation's leaders on Tuesday, the government said. External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee's one-day visit was primarily to invite Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapakse to a regional summit that India will host in April, but also included talks on resolving the more than two-decade civil conflict in the country, just off the southern tip of India.

I beleve that even 'MR' should not accept the invitation to participate at the summit.

First being the treatment given by the India when he visited two times.

Then certainly through TN, LTTE can achive thier target to dump him. What can we do if this happens. Can SL decalare war on India for loose security. SL can just cry only and complain to all over the world and two weeks passed by, everybody will forget everything.

So it's better not to get ridiculed for a third time specially on the April fools day as sumit is scheduled for 1st to 3rd.

On the Terrorism, we dont need India's intervention/advice now as they trained them. Let them warry about their own terrorism which they cannot eradicate by them self.

If TN is pressuring them, ask Sun-Goat to giveup arms and then lets talk about tamil's greviences.

Dear SLH,

whatever be the political and pressing misgivings, MR should attend as many
regional summits and hammer SL interests and concerns home. Again and again.

Also, he can focus on economy, trade and other SL interests.

I'm sure he knows what is best for him.

ps: which . in India gave him shabby treatment ? just curious to know !

Dear RM7000,

I really do not know whether 'RM' know what's best as he some time act like f..l.

Anyway as far as the new items I read, first visit was dumped by many deplomatics including the then CM of TN, Jayalaitha.

Second time even Singh did not want to pose for a photo due to presure from TN politicians.

Fact is that India is a coaliation government like SL and PM of India cannot efford to loose the support from TN. End of the day, everyone wants to be in the power clinging any body's back.

Personaly I beleve that SAARC has not done much to any of it's member countries other than the money spend on tamasha's of inaugrational meetings. Example, can at least these countries open their visa barriers to each other?

Wink Nearly forgot about JJ. Okay. Maybe she was busy trying to bolt the door and close the windows of Vaiko's or maybe she was
busy trying to arrest M Karunanidhi.

Regarding Singh, you're right. He's a coalition man.

okay. SAARC is indeed a comedy. Currently, the SAARC countries are like few women scratching each other's backs.
However, there is backroom and track-2 diplomacies/meetings ( margin meetings ) at SAARC which could be
of some use.

Also, I think what is very important for all members is that in future, China, Japan, South Korean, US may join the SAARC some way or other -
right now they are observer nations of SAARC goings-on. EU also has been granted observer status. IRN may join the organization too, in future.
Afghanistan has already joined it.

Post Discussion
Some points to include in the discussion between the President and visiting Indian Minister :

a) How to get the best out of Dr Mervin Silva in the economic development of Sri Lanka. or else to give him a role in one of the upcoming Indian Movies.

b) A brief and friendly debate on whether Sachin T or Sanath J is better.

c) Whether to re-adjust the Sri Lankan clock by another half hour.

d) Air India jumbo to be first to land at Weerawila International Airport on 15 Nov 2009 (President's B day)

e) Whether current interpretation of the story of Rama - Ravana war is correct, President trying to convince that Ravana won the war, the Indian Minister trying to say SL is part of India because Rama won that war
