    COLOMBO: Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa on Sunday said the motive of the Tamil Tigers in carrying out the twin bomb blasts on buses in Nittambuwa and Telwatta during the past two days was to create a backlash against the Tamil community by the majority Sinhalese. The President urged the people to exercise restraint.

"Through these attacks, the LTTE has attempted to thwart the Government's efforts to find a peaceful solution to the grievances of the Tamil community," the President said in a statement.

The public must exercise patience, he said, urging them to extend their support to the police and security forces to prevent the repeat of such attacks. He urged the public, especially employees of public transport services, to be vigilant

I just don’t get it how come successive SL Governments make the same old mistakes. You cannot bomb North & East with outdated old planes and kill innocent Tamil people and expect to wipe out the LTTE. Look what’s happening in Iraq. You have to win the hearts & mines of the Tamils if we are to succeed. MR approach is very immature its like dictatorship in SL President gets involved in every thing including running a local airline what’s happening. Cost of living is going up; the economy is in bad shape. Most of all international opinion is shifting to negative gear. This is a typical example of armatures ruling the country. All talk no action. SL is not all about war in NE all aspects of the country have to be better managed.  Every action has a reaction. It applies to both parties. At the rate things are going we are going to get UN forces in our shores very soon.

Threat on Trincomalee city has been controlled effectively.
Liberation of innocent people in Vakarei who were under iron fist of LTTE terrorists is near a victory.
The Tamil people in Vakarei (Last terrorist held territory in Western province) has been coming to the Sri Lankan government forces held areas in search of liberation from terrorism.

Some Tamils in abroad (who does not have spinal chord) are terrorised and collecting money.....

No one in the world will accept when innocent civilians are killed. It should be also applied to minority tamils also. The government of Sri Lanka  is using multi barrel launchers to attack the already displaced refugees in the name of wiping out LTTE. As a Tamil my heart goes out for every one died in the recent blast but at the same time the majority sinhalese should understand this what the tamils have been going through for last three decades. We have to recognize
1) The Rajapakshe gov did not come to power with the mandate to solve the problem. If they really had, they wouldn't have put that any potential solution would be based unitary state in the election campaign.
2) The army, navy and air force have been fighting the LTTE over 25 years and did not understand this war is unwinnable.
3) Every tamil feels all three armed forces are occupying forces and not to save them and they will fight to the last to chase them out from their teritory
4) Only remedy is two nations under one country with full internal and external autonomy if the two country frame work is not possible
5) Be ready to compromise

Look at the situation, without any bias. LTTE is getting hit day after day. And the idiotic leaders are issuing empty 'threats' all the time. Remember that Rasia guy said 'if GOSL doesn't open A-9 LTTE will take steps to open it'. That was 2 months ago.... Rasia has forgotten that and now talking about something else.

I dont justify the death of innocent people. Infact, it doesnt matter whether I justify it or not. Since, I am an individual, and my opinions/feelings don't make any difference for those in the ground.

War is brutual my friend. Thats why we work hard to avoid war. Try hard to work it out without going to war. But when the war starts, then we should stop whining about deaths. Unlike in the old days of kings, where wars were conducted outside civilian populations, present day warfare occurs among the civilians.

We can argue here who started the war (GOSL or LTTE terrorists) in the first place. But the thecia leader, hiding behind the 'civilians' put claymore mines in Jaffna and killed SL soldiers. The Tamils in the north were enjoying peace, travelled back and forth without hinderance, strated bulding their damaged houses. They had hope. but the terrorists in Kilinochchi feared that they are going to be 'forgotten' by the Tamils.
The leader and his henchmen decided to start  small scale attacks, and all hell broke loose.

The day after the LTTE signed the CFA, terrorists thugs started gunning down thier Tamil opponents. More than 125 Tamils from other political parties were killed within 3 months of signing the CFA, while not a single LTTE cadre was gunned down.

It is time for GOSL and SL armed forces to go after and remove the terrorist leaders. The need is to liquidate the LTTE leadership (political, miltary, and financial) and cripple the terror outfit, so that SLA/GOSL don't need to deal with this menace in the years to come.

Innocent people will die in the war, whether we justiy it or not.
