Post Sri Lanka government says peace talks to go ahead despite Ta
Associated Press,  Thu Mar 23 09:14:23 EST 2006

DILIP GANGULY  -   Associated Press Writer  -              COLOMBO, Sri Lanka -  (AP)  The Sri Lankan government reaffirmed its commitment to the peace process Thursday after the Tamil Tiger rebels suggested the government was not fulfilling its obligations agreed at the last round of talks.        Tamil Tiger rebels began fighting in 1983 for a separate Tamil homeland in Sri Lanka - 's north and east. More than 65,000 people died in the conflict before the government and rebels signed a Norway-brokered cease-fire in 2002. Talks to strengthen the increasingly fragile truce began in Geneva last month.

Are Tiger rebels fulfilling its obligations agreed at the last round of talks?

ANSWER is NOT...NO..NO.

So why threatning to pull out of talks...and postponing talks....sort of talks here??  Both parties should try to fulfill whatever agreed and of course whatever possible.  in this context, LTTE ahve more responsibilities to do.....

My message to the Rebels:  BE HONEST, DO NOT SHOW THE WORLD THAT YOU ARE HONEST.....

Post GOSL will eat their humble pie again
Many statements are made for the press. In reality GOSL is making a lot of noice, then withdraw or forget their comments to the press.

Now they are saying they will go ahead with the talks even if the LTTE does nto turn up. With whom will they talk? Where?

What a stupid Question? if LTTE refuse...whom to talk with????   Come on....learn some diplomatic tactics....at least just to understand the news...

Rebels use their tactics like "we r returning to war....the last eelam war.....etc."
GOSL use their tactics like " we are going for the talks, committed to peace, being patient even LTTE kills so many soldiers...."

NOW COMPARE THOSE TWO DIFFERENT TACTICTS...........WHICH ONE YOU THINK THE INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY WELCOME?

Smart comment, xtreme.

But ..... isn't that just halfway towards the solution? To complete the process, our own community will have to welcome the tactics of the President.

Complaints against talks, venue, etc. etc. are, sadly, becoming loud and clear.

Will the President's tactics be rejected by his own supporters?

What international community welcome or not has no value.
Let's say Tigers are going to war, what is international community going do about it?
Most probably nothing.

On the other hand, the government has no choice to show patience and put the smiley face and suck up to the international community.

What is the international community going to do about it?  Nothing again.
I am sure they will welcome the government.  Will that help prevailing peace in Sri Lanka?

Perhaps not.
