Shimali Senanayake in Colombo, Wed Mar 22 06:22:22 EST 2006
The Sri Lanka navy on Wednesday arrested a fishing boat off the
island's northern coast, suspected of trying to smuggle arms for the
Tamil Tiger rebels, the military said."We recovered 20 gelignite sticks
on board the vessel," said Brig.Prasad Samarasinghe, military spokesman.
The large fishing trawler with five men on board was taken into custody
east of Point Pedro, he said. "We suspect the boat was on "" to transfer weapons at mid-sea."

'The navy suspects that the boat was being used by the LTTE to transport their arms and explosives,' said Samarasinghe....
Nice one Mr.Brigadier!
LTTE really needs to 'Smuggle' 20 gelignite sticks. They are SOOOOO unavailable they need to send FIVE Tamils (ethnic Tamils that is!) to safe guard it! Mr.Brigadier, they are NOT available in NE like MBRLs or 120mms, a very RARE commodity!!
What a Catch by the Navy! Bravo! This Brig. guy needs bravery Madel! Mahinda here we recommend one for this guy. Mr.Brigadier don't worry you will get one if you play the correct political cards. Most probably when MR is leaving the office! If you want to improve your chances try to catch 200 gelignite sticks and 50 Tamils (ethnic variety)!!
BTW, what happened to the fishermen's catch (fish/prawns)?
Did you send them to your Col. underworld contact who runs an fish wholesale business? Be careful these underworld gangs may be run by LTTE (ethnic Tamils that is!). You may end up like Muthalief or other INTELLIGENCE people who used to catch 20 or 30 gelignite sticks to become TOP guys in the military ladder!!

proximus,
I'm standing by my statement.
NICE ONE BRIGADIER!!!!!!!
Not only you Mr.Brig., even your predecessors in the Navy have said this kind of crap.
At the rate of their throwing off board the 'Cominication sets and mobile phones', the NE waters should be full of them!
Mr.Brig, why don't your guys jump into the water and try to get some proof by recovering them?
Just for a change? The SL people are tired of your stories from the days of Brig. Tissa Weerathunga!!

 Connect the dots
Hectic preperations underway for "Final War"...
The Navy is shot at from uncleared areas when it attempts to intercept a suspicious boat...
Next day another boat is caught trying to smuggle in explosives..
Bala from London makes a statement showing reluctance to attend next round of talks giving flimsy excuses ...
Connecting the dots, it look like LTTE is war mongering again..

I think boat playing games infront of SLMM and SLA at various locations on different days, should be a ploy to fool SLN and unload a weapons shipment in Mullativu/Trinco area seas.
This 20 dynamite sticks also should be a part of the game.
Next boats will be the real shipment.

I think I can shed some light here.
It is very common in Sri Lanka and other Asian countries to use gelignite sticks to catch fish. All they do is light up the gelignite and through it into the water. A a small blast follows and all fish around that area will float either dead or because of the shock. Then catch them all easily. So 20 gelignite sticks are quite common in many fishing boats.

Geligninte fishing is also illegal. (It works by the way not by blowing up the fish - which would be counter-productive) but by bursting the swim bladderthe fish uise to control their depth in the water, and thus bringing them to the surface.
As far as I can tell from the report, though, the gelignite is irrelevant. The fishermen are acccused of being co-opted by the LTTE to pick up a shipment from the high seas. The gelignite presumably was simply standard stock on the ship.

Usually the Navy confiscate the fishermen's catch by accusing them of helping the LTTE. And then they sell it in Col. market. It is a well known fact in NE. Just go to the Rathmalana airport and see what the returning soldiers bringing.
Yes! sure they paid for them. Even during the 80's the don't pay for a tea! I've witnessed it my friend.

Even 20 gelignite sticks is enough. Even the navy cought these guys with an one stck is enough. Why you tell the general to play the cards. Has VP played his cards corret? If so why Karuna is running wild? So Raguna, are you threatning by mentioning a hero like Muthalief?

I'm NOT threatning any one here! Also I'm not like SL Army who always think by threatning, Torturing and evening killing they can bring the people to their knees!!!
I'm just pointing out what happens to some one who don't do his job right. That is getting into illegal Fish Business and get killed! Muthalif got hooked into underworld fish business, he thought he can get cheap fish from LTTE controlled area, confiscating the catch by accusing the fisherfolks of being LTTE etc and get the cut.
Guess who is asking to play the cards correct? A country who played all their cards to cheat it's people is now asking VP to play it correct! WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

20 sticks of dynamites are better enough to bring a SL Navy boat out of commission. So, many who talk here know nothing of dynamites, tell some funny things to save the butt of LTTE.

May be ! People here are not experts in dynamites. But 20 sticks gelignites cannot bring down a Dvora. The Isrealis who are going to commit suicide hearing this!
Then to be fair to karthika it may be true too! I read that nowadays these Dvora's are being built in Col. Dockyard Co.
LTTE should not waste 20 sticks, it is 19 too many!!!!

Tea ^ Fish are two different things. Your posting will give an Idea to LTTE. If SLA get fish from this manner LTTE can poison the fish
