Post Three ways to fight terrorism - Editorial
national post,  Sun Mar  5 16:42:51 EST 2006

The result of the Liberals' cowardice is that the Tigers have been permitted to conduct door-to-door shakedowns of the Tamil community for years. This past weekend, the Toronto Star published a chilling interview with a Tamil Canadian who received regular visits from a Tiger bagman. The message many such voluntary "donors" receive is clear: Give money, or your family in Sri Lanka will pay the price.

As a former Canadian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, Mr. Collacott knows exactly how thoroughly the Tigers have scarred that country. To read Canada's Inadequate Response to Terrorism is to appreciate what a disgrace it is that the ongoing terrorist war in that country is being fought with money donated legally by Canadian citizens. Stockwell Day, Canada's new Minister of Public Safety, has pledged to outlaw the Tigers. We urge him to do so immediately.

There is a clear pattern with this LTTE nuisance. They will push the government to the wall with terrorism, gun running, child abuse, money laundering and credit card fraud using civilian shields. However when the government reacts, it suddenly becomes “genocide against the Tamil people”. Then, various groups claiming to represent the Tamil voice begin to dish out with pro-LTTE propaganda. One example is the “International Federation of Tamils”. The name sounds impressive, but in reality they are a handful of LTTE sympathsers occupying a dingy little flat in Geneva. When you try to kick the them out, they will strip down to their undies and run amok as it happened at Gatwick airport during the 80s. Thankfully,  governments around the world have become much wiser over the years.

Its happening everywhere....

What do you think the political activities the LTTE carry out in gov. controlled areas...???

"KAPPAM" -  threatning the innocents (Tamil, Muslims) and asking money every month.....anyone agree its a political activity of a group claiming to be the sole rep. of a community....??

Poor SL relatives of the tamil expatriots living overseas.....dying everyday.....for life.......

Post News sources that cannot be trusted
I am trying to compile a list of news sources that are insignificant and unreliable, based on the claims made in TLA forum. Can I add this one too? The point is, that the list has been growing fast since recently  Laughing

So what is your criteria for evaluating a news source that is "insignificant and unreliable" ? And what news sources are contained in your list so far ?

Post Propaganda is everywhere
It is interesting to note from yesterday's Sunday Leader paper how Mahinda has secretly sent his brother Basil and another person Vas Gunawardena to Geneva without telling anyone inlcuding other Government delegates.

Gunawardana's mission was to organise a protest campaign against LTTE in Geneva. In this forum many readers talked about protests done by Tamils and now it is evident that  it is GOSL which organised this protest.

This article states that Basil took control from Nimal Sripala DeSilva on the contents of the joint statement including the handling of the JVP leader Wimal Weerawansa. According to Sunday Leader following happened,

Sunday Leader wrote:
From then on, it was Basil who took charge of things.

After making several calls to Temple Trees and to Solheim, the joint statement was finally released.

At the conclusion of the talks and releasing the statement, de Silva had one question for Basil. "Wonder how the JVP would react to this statement?"

After laughing sarcastically, Basil responded saying, "I have done the needful. The joint statement was released after receiving the JVP's approval."

De Silva was puzzled by this response. "How did that happen?" he queried.

"Wimal Weerawansa was summoned to Temple Trees and the joint statement was shown to him by the President and it was released only after they both agreed to it. Now don't worry," Basil said.

Please stick to the subject/topic under discussion.

Surprised

Dear LankanExile

Do you have any evidence or news reports to suggest that Basil did organise these protests?

According to you it seems that Basil is quite capable guy to organize this!  Can we send him to Norway to mobilize people against LTTE fund collectors?  We need more people like Basil then......
