Post No peace, no truce: All LTTE wants is Karuna
Hindustan Times,  Tue Feb 21 23:39:48 EST 2006

The main aim of the Tamil Tigers at the Geneva talks is to force the Sri Lankan Government to hand over Karuna, the renegade Tiger commander, and not search for peace, says a leading expert on South Asian Affairs.

"The aim of the LTTE is to force the Sri Lankan government to hand over Karuna. This is their priority, not P-Toms (Post-Tsunami Operational Management Structure) or the Interim Self-Governing Authority (ISGA). Karuna is getting stronger in the East -– that is the problem," says Dr S Chandrasekharan, head of New Delhi-based South Asia Analysis Group.

Karuna, Tiger supremo Velupillai Prabhakaran's right-hand man, had raised the banner of revolt in March 2004. Since then, reprisal killings between the two groups have gone on.

This article is all bull-dust.

If Karuna is ALL that the LTTE wants, how about negotiating a deal. The GOSL can give him Karuna in exchange for the LTTE denouncing Eelam.

It will be perfect if Karuna and Prabha can kill each other in a dual.

I go along with Col.Karuns demand that the govt. arrest and hand over Prabhakaran  to try against crimes against Tamil people.

Soorya deva killed and destroyed more Tamils  than any other Tamil in the history.

LTTE appears to be gradually building the case against Karuna. News items have begun to appear on TamilNet of alleged attacks within uncleared areas in the east. These “attacks” will escalate as talks progress. TRO members allegedly abducted by Karuana will also be found dead soon.

"LTTE will be stubborn…it will suit the Sri Lankan government so long as the attacks on the Sri Lankan forces do not take place. If the attacks continue, the domestic Sinhala component will seek retaliation. Ceasefire weakens LTTE and not the Lankan government -– this point has to be borne in mind," explains Chandrasekharan.

I hope the SLG takes note of this observation seriously and performs accordingly and not by the dictates of its stupid coalition partners.

Post What the LTTE really wants...
is a good rattling in the form of a few 'daisy cutters'!

Me thinks the LTTE will find themselves not always getting what they want in the future.

I agree that this article is garbage but not for the same reasons.  I think Chandrasekharan's point was that the LTTE's goal for the Geneva talks alone was to get Karuna.  We all know its ultimate goal is Eelam and Karuna represents an obstacle; thus getting Karuna would help get the LTTE back on its Eelam track.

My... My... we have been following the Gulf war on CNN. Unfortunately watching talking heads on the box has the undesirable side effect of frying one's brains.

The Daisy cutters aren't going to get the LTTE. I think you mean that the Tamil civilians need to be taken down a peg or two.

PS: Marion is more suitable for the Duke... don't you think?
