    Colombo: Britain's Charity Commission the state body monitoring charities has expressed concern that the Tamil Rehabilitation Organisation (TRO) had consulted the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) in determining allocations of funds.

The Charity Commission spokesperson Sarah Jones said investigations had revealed that the TRO in Sri Lanka might have liaised with the LTTE in allocating funds.

She said the commission had made its finding after some of its accountants probed the work of the TRO in Sri Lanka and in Britain, tracing specific transactions, The Sunday Times in Colombo reported.

A report on the findings states that in September 2000, the commission received complaints that the TRO in Britain was supporting terrorist activity by transferring funds to Sri Lanka in support of the LTTE, which is proscribed in Britain under its Terrorism Act of 2000.

One time, TRO in Britain was deregistered because of fund irregularities. Then established TRF.

There is a limit to how much you can cheat the world. There is a limit to corruption also.

This has come as a real surprise. What we understood from the Sri Lankan media was TRO is a LTTE “front” and it buys arms and ships them to the LTTE.

The Charity Commission UK has taken nearly six years to say that nothing of that sort has happened. It says that TRO consulted LTTE to determine where to apply the funds. What is the problem in this?. It is only last week WB ADB IMF and UNDP scheduled a visit to LTTE land to discuss how to apply their funds. Everyone consults LTTE before applying their funds in the LTTE controlled areas.

The GoSL must stop silly accusations otherwise we all fall flat on our faces when the facts are out. This is not the first time such things have turned out to be a silly joke but this one went on for 6 years.

TRO will naturally be back in business very soon in the UK.

I do not think Englishman forget things as quikly as sinhalese used to (now sinhalese are smarter anyway) !!!

Forget what? that they were hoodwinked into spending 6 years investigating something so silly. There is no question that sinhalese are smart all know about that and this is not the discussion point.

Sri Lanka is one of the most corrupted countries in the world.Our country is a begger nation and begs for money all over the world then lose them in misuse and corruption.Military leaders and politicians were involved in arms deal scandals in the past.It's funny how many military commander's children study in the west eventhough their father's SL salary is not even enough to pay for the rent.
It's funny when so called democratically elected govt can't control corruption but go and pressure other govts to ban or investigate TRO.
People who rob the country always try to blame others while they do the same.
TRO,foreign NGO's or any other organization from south whether they like it or not have to work with LTTE since they control the area.
Corruption regardless of who is involed in it it,totally unacceptable.

Australia looks like the latest campaign/project of the GoSL on TRO. Let us hope this time we end up looking a bit like a professionals and at-least one persons ends up in jail.

My bet is we will have to wipe our face of egg when the enquiry ends.

The Interim Manager’s initial evaluation of the Charity’s state of affairs found that the Trustees had not been able to account satisfactorily for the application of charitable funds of the Charity and also concluded that the trustees were not administering the charity to an acceptable standard. The Interim Manager appointed BDO Burah Hathy in Sri Lanka to undertake a review of the systems operated by TRO SL, tracing specific transactions from the Charity. This review concluded that financial record keeping was adequate. However, the results of the review suggested that the TRO SL liaised with the LTTE in determining where funds could be applied. It also found that once funds had been received by TRO SL, they were used for a variety of projects which appeared to be generally humanitarian, but not necessarily charitable in English law nor in line with the Charity’s objects.

"LTTE is going to receive award from GOSL in Geneva"
"LTTE is the only PEACE-organisation from Tamils the WORLD
"Even International reports suggest liase with LTTE and except LTTE and their ACTIVITIES (MURDERS)"
