Sri Lanka Tigers rule out mid-Feb peace talks - source
today.reuters.com, Sun Feb 5 02:53:39 EST 2006
COLOMBO (Reuters) - Sri Lanka's Tamil Tigers have rejected government plans for peace talks in Geneva on Feb. 15 because of reported abductions of pro-Tiger aid workers, and want talks in late February instead, a rebel source said on Sunday.
The government said on Friday the talks, seen as vital to stop a rash of violence escalating into a return to a two-decade-old war that has already killed more than 64,000 people, would start in Switzerland on Feb.15 for two days.
"Feb. 15 is completely out," the rebel source told Reuters on condition of anonymity. "The Tigers are keen to go to Geneva for talks, but the Tamils Rehabilitation Organisation (TRO) abductions have affected the atmosphere."

The LTTE continues to refuse to come to talks and the LTTE violations of the CFA violations escalates. It is important the World Community put pressure on the LTTE. EU must immediately lists the LTTE as a terrorist organisation and stop the LTTE extortion of the Tamil Diaspora. Most of the funds from the Tamil Diaspora go to the LTTE preparation for war and to the lavish lifestyle of the LTTE leaders. Read about the LTTE leadership use of funds for alcohol and brothels in this Norwegian report www.senter.no/norway.pdf
The direct funding of the LTTE from the Norwegian Government must stop and Norway can not be considered an unbiased facilitator if they continue to give the LTTE millions of dollars.
The LTTE should immediately release the abducted TRO representatives so they can return to their families. The amateurish stories related to the missing TRO representatives verify Pottu Amman is behind the kidnapping and his men are probably now torturing the abductees. LTTE has tried to fabricate a stupid story to indicate the TRO representatives have been abducted by the SL Army, The Karuna Group and Indian Military.
The SL Army should send in it's forces into the LTTE torture camps and look for the abducted TRO personell. Let the World see the LTTE concentration camps and their torture victims.

Let's hope history doesn't repeat itself!
'Rajendra Chola assumed full kingship in 1014. In 1018, after only four years sole rule, he associated his son Rajadhiraja in sovereignty. Rajendra Chola completed the conquest of Lanka in 1018. The Sinhala king, Mahendra, was taken to Tanjore as a prisoner, and died there in 1027.
The Cholas controlled Lanka from 1018 to 1070. Sinhala rule was limited to the Ruhana area, where the descendants of Mahendra maintained some authority.'

GOSL should not give much into peace talks with LTTE. It is just a game.
Instead, LTTE camps in the EAST should be removed and tamils from that area should bring foregin investment to the area for economic development. GOSL should support those with foreign aids through govt etc. and/or with tax breaks.

LTTE thinks the whole world revoles around it. May its its true in the case of GOSL. This is just getting too damn boring. Why not try something different for a change. Why not specify a deadline and if LTTE does not agree to anything substancial, move on a ahead with reconstuction, and a political solution without it. If the Tamil civilians, the Indian govt and the rest of IC find its acceptable, why does gosl need to wait for LTTE?

In any case, SL gov should not be negotatiating with ltte, instead they should be having talks with the group responsible for the various attacks on the sl army, navy, etc, that has been causing more problems than the ltte, who has repeatedly denied that it is them and that it is this other force who's responsible. If the ltte cannot keep the people in their area under control, they are not true representatives.

I think LTTE agreed to talks because of Uncle Sam's arm twisting tactics. It will use any excuse to wriglle out of it and pin the blame on GOSL. I think they want to go to war and take control of the east as well.
The Karuna issue will figure significantly in the talks. My initial thought is that GOSL is on a bad wicket on this point. However LTTE reaction makes me think that that MR is street smart, and may have an ace up his sleeve.

This is exactly the same bickering that took place in agreeing to have peace talks other than Oslo. LTTE will accept a different date but not any date proposed by GOSL. Peace talks with terrorists amounts to giving into terrorism, shows weakness and it gives a wrong message to other terrorists groups who are contemplating in achieving their selfish goals through terrorism.

We have to start the peace talks as soon as possible. the days we prolong peace discussions means, the more days NE tamil people have to live under sufferings, &much difficulties. so enough is enough. it is our NE tamils r the ultimate victims. see how happilly tamils live wt us in colombo now. they dont have any sufferrings or any problems. they are not discriminated & they stay so happy wt us.tamils live in south dont have any problems.as a sinhalese we always treat them as our ones & they r so having comfartable lives. colombo tamils never want to live in NE beacas of good enviornment & friendliness of sinhalese people. this war can cause lot of hardships to them also. we will unite again & settle this problem in geneva wt mahinda. i think, but i dont know, mahinda is also a reasonable man like ranil.
