Post Douglas loses heavyweight
Munza Mushtaq in Colombo,  Wed Feb  1 11:52:50 EST 2006

In what appeared to be one of the most surprising splits, K.
Vigneswaran, a former parliamentarian and advisor to Eelam Peoples
Democratic Party (EPDP) Leader Douglas Devananda has resigned from the
party owing to the 'authoritative and dictatorial attitude' adopted by
the EPDP leader.Dr. Vigneswaran who was with the EPDP for more than ten years was also
Devananda's chief advisor and main negotiator of the EPDP when the
draft constitution was being drawn up, and obviously Vigneswaran's
resignation is a huge blow 'resource' wise to the EPDP leader, sources
pointed out.

Isn't Douglas the beacon of democracy as promoted by the Sinhala hardliners and 'oppose LTTE whenever' groups? Will these people stop telling the NE people to follow the path of these 'democratic' leaders or does 'democracy' have a new meaning in sri lanka?

Post Hypocrit Devananda
Dr. Vigneswaran, confirming his resignation from the party due to irreconcilable differences, pointed out that, "I have left the party because I couldn't work with the leader's style of functioning, as there was no democracy within the party, due to the authoritative attitude adopted by Mr. Devananda," he noted.

Devananda has been critical of LTTE as it is an undemocratic organization.  Now it seems he is being accused for the same reason by his powerful party men.  It is like pot calling kettle black.

Sunday Times and Leader Reports say that Solheim met Devananda at Samaraweera's residence and said "LTTE agreed to stop the violence, but you also should stop your killings".   Does Devananda have an additional portfolio for killing perceived LTTE supporters and civilians?  What a shame for MR to have this rogue as a cabinet minister who is allegedly in-charge of these paramilitary killings?  No wonder LTTE tried to eliminate Devananda for the greater good of the Tamil society!
