    Ahead of crucial peace talks scheduled in Geneva, the Sri Lankan government has told breakaway Tamil Tigers leader Karuna to halt attacks on his former comrades.
Although Colombo maintains officially that it has nothing to do with the "Karuna faction", informed sources in Sri Lanka said the message had gone to the group, which is active in the country's east, particularly in Batticaloa district."The government is gently applying pressure," a source told IANS over telephone. "There are now restrictions on the movement of Karuna's people in some areas."

Yes.. GOSL must protect the LTTE from Karuna Faction since LTTE is unable to protect itself.. This is very gracious and noble of GOSL and shows that they are approaching the talks with an open heart and open arms. Even thogh Karuna is not signatory to CFA and GOSL has no control over him, same like LTTE has no control over "peoples militia".., GOSL is attempting to help the LTTE

Now LTTE should approach the talks in a positive manner after this good and kind action from GOSL.

People in the south always think that they could simply wipe out the ltte but because of their brotherly love they are sitting tight. How soon people forget the 03's debacle but then again they would say today karuna is in their side.

Karuna will never be able to beat LTTE.He was well respected once by many until he joined GOSL.If he had established a separate group and operated without GOSL help,he could have gotten some more supporters.But by joining GOSL (enemy's enemy my friend tactic) he lost many supporters.So called wanni LTTE is too big for Karuna to destroy besides so many eastern cadres are still with wanni LTTE.I don't think Karuna is not that stupid,he knows GOSL and JVP ulterior motives.Even if he ever defeat Piraba ,he will still have to fight against GOSL.He is just using the protection from GOSL for his persoanal vandetta against piraba.We all know how Karuna hates SL military.He killed so many of them and police.This is the reality of SL civil war.

Sorry to point out that your hypothesis is totally bias. Norway asked LTTE to stop violence, so if your hypothesis is correct, SLA couldn't take LTTE because of Norway. Whether the request comming from GOSL, India, or eveil, if it help to protect lives of people we all should appreciate it.
The major reason why Karuna has become a greater danger to the LTTE is that Karuna's spys have been able to infiltrate the LTTE.  Under this situation, some of the future operartions and plans of the LTTE will be in peril.  The ultimate wish of everybody should be to bring peace putting a halt to the war.

I saw in the news that Ranil speaking in a pressconference demanding the other militery groups to be disarmed as a precondition to next round of talks.
Its pity that Ranil is so hurry to announce LTTE's demands even before LTTE announce them. This clearly shows howmuch this clown wanna be the darling of this facist terrorists...!!!!

LTTE "Civilian Force" attack on SLA has no effect on CFA, but LTTE-Karuna faction attack on LTTE-VP faction effects CFA.
Wow man what a theory.

It seems that LTTE agreed to talks because it can not bear karuna faction attack on "sole representative mythology" and it wants SLA to cleanup it's mess. It's so funny, that jokester said Karuna was an "Internal Minor Matter".
