    DILIP GANGULY  -   Associated Press Writer  -              COLOMBO, Sri Lanka -  (AP)  An explosion rattled a strategic causeway in a rebel-held area of northern Sri Lanka -  on Sunday, a police official said. There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage.        Elephant Causeway, located 250 kilometers (155 miles) north of the capital, Colombo, was the scene of repeated battles during Sri Lanka - 's near two-decade civil war. The Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam drove government forces back along the isthmus in April 2000 to secure control of the only road along which trucks can travel to deliver supplies to the area.

This may be as previously happened, according to the LTTE information, Dumb and poorly trained LTTE trainers blew up the whole training ground including the trainees and the training instructors.
 

Let's assume LTTE is dumb and poorly trained,eventhough defense analysts around the world think otherwise....Then how come 70,000 + members of SL armed forces ran away or deserted their posts and why LTTE has SL military's weapons which includes captured tanks,gun boats,howitzers and 50 caliber machine guns.One of the LTTE's major arms supplier is SL Military .If LTTE is dumb then SL military is dumber .

I only hope that the LTTE and GOSL act in good faith. If they don't we the people are the losers.

To me it seems that both parties think that they can get a military advantage if hostilities resume. This means that eventually when peace talks begin they can negotiate from a position of strength. How many lives will be lost during the interim, nobody knows or at least none of the decision makers seem to care.  More innocent people will flee to India to save their lives and more children of the poor will come back to the south in body bags and the JVP can claim to be patriots over our blood.

And on next the election the south will again vote for JVP to repeat the cycle.

Good observation. Yes, the SL army has been very dumb. They believed in heavy weaponary, maybe for some officers it was good money. The air force never needed Kafirs or whatever. They should have had more Choppers. Anyway, those few who made money out of importing those weapons and donating them to the LTTE should go to hell sooner or later. They will die like pigs. But it seems LTTE is becoming dumber in other ways. They are falling apart.
