    DILIP GANGULY  -   Associated Press Writer  -              COLOMBO, Sri Lanka -  (AP)  Soldiers in full battle gear manned checkpoints and patrolled Sri Lanka - 's capital Sunday after an intelligence report warned that Tamil Tiger suicide bombers may target prominent landmarks in Colombo.         The city's World Trade Center, Central Bank building and port may be targets of a Tiger attack as surging violence threatens a four-year-old cease-fire, the Sunday Leader newspaper said, citing an intelligence report.

It is likely the LTTE attacks will continue. The Capital is likely to be a target. There is no response from the SLA, so why not continue the terrorism? Norway continues to increase its funding of the LTTE and increased attacks will also help the LTTE to raise more funds in the Tamil Diaspora.

FBI/CIA is sending agents to Colombo to investigate the LTTE - Al-Qaida cooperation. It is likely the LTTE will take their terrorism abroad. They have previously threatened to hit targets in London and in Oslo. The LTTE attack on the SLMM on Saturday indicates Europeans no longer are “holly cows”.

Terrorism pays is the message GOSL and Norway sends to all terrorist groups in the world!

SLDF should also be careful about how different components of suicide team can get together from different areas of the country.

It does not take weeks to get together people from Kilinochchi and Bandarawela etc., into one team. Road blocks should be manned in very specific locations supported by security details along the roads if required they need to check vehicles.

The best option to safegurd civilians from indiscriminate bombings by the LTTE in Colombo or elsewhere will be the good intelligence.  Increasing check points, frequent arrest of tamils etc will bring day-to-day lives of civilians a missary.  GOSL should do everything possible to rebuild the intelligence unit which was betrayed by the RW's government. SLA and the Sinhalese and Muslims in Colombo should try their best to maintain very good relationships with tamils in Colombo because, the development of hatred among the comunities will be benificial for the LTTE and will never help to eradicate LTTE bombings in Colombo and other cities.

True, bring back the LRRP. Hit the LTTE where it hurts most. Moreover the SLA needs to train elite Sinhalese commando units to speak Tamil proficiently, thus enabling them to infiltrate the group -or less ambitiously speaking- to better access intelligence from terror suspects in Tamil. Speaking Tamil is useful for other reasons too.

Comrade I really hope they do this, but i doubt our strategicians will opt for this becuase they fear repercussions from tamils who will then use this to cite harrassment by the Sinhalese army. The message from the tamil community is: "leave us alone or we'll make a fuss". Never you mind about the terrorist cells in colombo or the fact that ordinary tamils secretly fund the ltte or harbour suspects in their homes..no, end of the day "you cant touch us". If you do, we complain.

So what can the Sinhalese do? Its a no win situation.
