Sri Lanka briefs foreign diplomats on sunken vessel
Associated Press , Mon Jan 9 08:01:46 EST 2006
Lanka's president Monday complained to western and Asian diplomats that Tamil Tiger rebels sunk a naval vessel, the government said.
President Mahinda Rajapakse met the ambassadors of Norway, Japan, Britain and the European Union - key backers of Sri Lanka's peace process, and briefed the about Saturday's pre-dawn attack that killed 13 sailors, a government statement said.
``The president condemning the attack in the strongest possible terms identified it as a suicide operation which had all the hallmarks of the LTTE (Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam),'' the statement said.
The attack off the east coast of Trincomalee and brought the death toll of security forces to 59 since Dec. 4, when a wave of anti-government attacks began. Authorities have blamed the Tigers, who have denied responsibility.

DID HE ASK FOR MILITARY HELP?
I don't think he called five ambassadors to his office simply to tell them that he condemned the operation.
Some of these reporters write what they 'think' happened inside at the meeting.
Knowing his capability (or rather, incapability) he most likely asked them : "Please tell me what to do next?"
They might have also asked him: " Mr President, please tell us why your Defence Advisor had those five students shot dead?" I wonder how he replied!
MR may also have said that since he had already promised the electorate that he will not go for war, he may have asked the ambassadors to send their forces to wipe out LTTE.

This is a usual thing, just to condemn the attack. All government members should accept the responsibility of destroying the vessel with navy officers by themselves not to facilitate forces with proper equipments and impose appropriate rules to save equipment and members in the arms forces.
It says there were many intelligent reports about such an attack and no one has taken any acting to prevent that. I don’t think president can ask anything else from these ambassadors other than briefing what had happen just like a government spokesmen.
I am quite sure all other counties are laughing from their back in a way GOSL is working.

A story is doing the rounds to say that Karuna is very concerned that there is going to be negotiation between the government and the tigers. He does not like that and he has made this clear to everybody and threatened serious action. He wants to be treated equally with the V.tigers.
It is a possibility that Trinco attack on the navy is one to make sure there is not going to be talk. He does not want to become history.

 Civilian Guerillas and Guerilla Civilians
Kavalan says:

In any guerilla campaign, every guerilla who is killed in action immediately becomes a civilian. The LTTE's current tactics show that their strategy is almost entirely guerilla warfare. Two of the basic guerilla strategies is to get the enemy to attack as many civilians as possible (in order to get sympathy from external parties) and for the guerillas to merge with the civilians as much as possible (to be most effective). Both strategies are served by guerillas masquerading as civilians.
This strategy was effectively used by the JVP in the late eighties and is being currently used by the LTTE.
How can the government counter this LTTE strategy?
Perhaps the JVP, themselves masters of the art, can advise the President!

Dear Kavalan,
I am interested in the involvement of the Defense Advisor: Did the Defense Advisor got physically involved and shot the students? Or does he give specific orders to carryout a mission to kill these students? Or it was a wrong judgment by the Security personals who said to have carried out the attack? Or do you mean to say that this is a LTTE type attack?

 Dear Pathma
It is a pity that the language you use do not match the pretty face on the picture you use below your name!

Hi Ravibas,
Why you are trying to match pretty faces with language?
Why don't you match the pretty face and the smile of Thamilselven with his doings?

Ahh thought so.. Must have been Karuna.. the one man problem who according to the LTTE spittle blabbers is hardly a force now a days.. Wonder where he bought the Suicide Woman with the boat ladden with explosives? Pettah Market?
Next time when you hear a "story doing the rounds" look around and check whether someone's reading Grimms book of fairy tales.. That darn book has more believeble stuff than the "Story that did a round" around your place!!
