Sri Lankan rebels are planning to kill top political leaders including President Mahinda Rajapaskha.

"We have had intelligence reports to this effect for sometime now, "said Pujitha Jayasundara, Deputy Inspector General of Colombo district.

The Hindustan Times newspaper said Wednesday the police launched a massive cordon and search operation in eight districts of the capital Colombo and arrested 900 persons, most of them Tamil.

The police official said among the leaders targeted by the LTTE were senior ministers and leader of political parties.

"Out of hundreds arrested in the operation conducted by 4,000 policemen, most were released, but five were detained on suspicion that had links with the LTTE, "Jayasundara said.

LTTE, refer to Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam.

He said the rebels were planning to create mayhem in Colombo and distract the government's attention from Jaffna, which the terror outfit was planning to attack with the idea of capturing it.

"LTTE may be planning to begin negotiations with the government from a position of strength after the capture of Jaffna, " said a political observer.

Sounds like an excuse for the mass arrests in Colombo.
Don’t see why LTTE would waste its cadets when they could get the job done with money!

One of the leading international political writer wrote in UK whne MR was elected as follows,
LTTE have killed many leaders like R. Premadasa, Rajiv Gandhi, Lalith Athulath Mudali, Gamini Disanayaka but they will not kill MR becasue if he is elected as president if SL that is the end of the road for him. They killed him by electing him. That is true. Once MR returned from India, he is nowhere. India refused all of his request exceot the intelectual support.
Now MR is trying to beleive US, they might have a deal for Jayantha Danapala for the UN post. But that is nothing special. India's existance will never allow US to support SL. US will not gain anything by supporting the unstable SL (south) politicians. Now MR is trying to deal directly with LTTE. Interim adminstration??? Lokks like he needs Ranil's path. Good to know that he picked up a bit early.

If there is a threatening to the lives of national leaders action should be taken to disclose them. If this sort of thing accounted in a foreign country, they will secretly searched everywhere until verify the intelligence report. No one in such country oppose the action taken to save the life of a national leader. But SL is different.
Government officers can do justification and prediction very well. But none of these stop any incident that took place in the past and they could not even find out who were responsible for such an act.
If GOSl really want to stop killing culture they should first take action to close the mouth of officers.
If it is noted very well anyone can see in other countries that military does not revealed any of their intelligence report until they act according to the report. In Sri Lanka, report if first reveal and allow opponent to change their tactics accordingly.

Well remember during UNP. Wimal Weerawansha the big mouth talked about LTTE intruders in Colombo.

Now they rounded up Colombo and arrested 930 Tamils. They put security checks back in place. They monitor Tamils now. They are going to install Camera's in important places. They put Rapid Deployment forces on trail bikes in place. They said they are ready to Rock and Roll.

Yet they cannot find the White Van that came and they do not know who kill the Tamil Businessman. The important thing is who ever the killers are;

There is no difference, now and then. Where is Weerawansa, Rathna Thero and Kotakadeniya?

It is time Rajapakse thinks about Somawansa Amarasinghe's election promise. "Send the forces home if they cannot protect borders".

It is interesting to note that over the years lot of important and wellknown people had been killed in Sri Lanka but all those time the Sri Lankan police put the blame on a gang, LTTE, JVP or Premadasa, Sirisena Cooray etc. In no instance a proper invesitgation had been carried out.

It was reported that Ranil and his bus was a target of one of those groups back in 2001. So police took action and later became popular as Athurugiria Millenium City incident. So at last the victom (Ranil/UNP) became the culpits. If Ranil had been killed the police would have been blamed on LTTE, JVP or Sirisena Cooray. It would have been ended there.

Today there is a similar situation. It was reported that the chairman of Maharaja organization (Sirasa and MTV owner) was in danger and a powerful politician behind it. But police do not want to take any actions. If it had happened they would have blamed on LTTE, JVP etc.

Typical ploy by successive Govt's.

Can anyone prove or disprove such claims?

This is just a diversion ........ for Govt's inaction to respond to the deteriorating events.

This circus will go on for next six years.

Recently in Colombo 900 tamils were questioned many arrested including 5 hard core LTTEs. What would have happened if some suicide bombers equipped with all the gear were intercepted?.

I recall a news item 2-3 yrs ago, a suicide bomber woman came to the office of Douglas Deva, his security people correctly recognised the suspicios person and stopped, informed police and the woman was sent to Col 3 police station in a three-wheeler, some time lapsed before the police officers attend to this matter. The woman then waited until a police officers came near her to question - and blasted herself with a police SI and few others.

This is not a shocking news item. LTTE has killed leaders before and  they will do it again, it is routine for them.

LTTE will kill and kill again. Only way to hit them is to do tit for tat attacks. This bending over and appeasing people wil not work any longer. How many strong leaders have they killed? They think 10 years ahead of the GOSL which is always reacting to events that the LTTE sets in motion to a strategic plan.  Even the US and Britain rounds up terrorist suspects now and holds them for long periods of time. No one will bother with this sort of strategy. They already smuggled in RPGs and suicide cadres ready to destablize the south when they launch the attack on Jaffna. Their plan is to lay seige to Jaffna by pretending it is  a citizens uprising. They will stage manage incidents such as the one on Jaffna University campus. They have now openly armed and trained civilians to attack targets. This strategy combined with the fact that the army is indeed incompetent and is a sinhala speaking army that is not well received in Jaffna will ensure that the Tigers will be succeed in driving the army out of Jaffna soon.  This will be combined with attacks in Colombo and other places to tie down reinforcements and to force a 1983 type massacre of innocents. Irony is that most Tamils live outside their bogus eelam.  And it is time everyone realizes the ONLY thing the LTTE wants is a separate nation no matter at what cost. If that happens, all Sinhala areas should become persona non grata to any tamil. That message should go out to all Tamils sitting on the fence and  having the cake and eat it too.  They need to know the lime soils of Jaffna is a far cry from their gold stores, their air conditioned apartments in Wellawatte which are apparently in the sinhala homeland. Now that is a not a fair assessment but that is how the Tamil racists Tiger supporters think. Well this is what Isreal did with a wall. But seems like it did not stop anything. JVP/JHU probably day dreaming to have Tamil Homeland and Sinhala Homeland. But it will not work. Can we send Kadirgama like people to Tamil Homeland? I have no doubt the Sinhala Homland will break into Christian Vs Buddhists. Not only that Ruhunu Buddhists Vs Colombo Buddhists as well.

 There more than 5% of Sinhala Christian among Sinhalese in Sri Lanka and they control more than 30% percent of Sri Lankan economy and around 20% of politics in Sri Lanka. Most of the army officers and high rank police officers are Christian. In such a situation do you think there would be a exactly Sinhala Buddhist sector in south.
 

Well during the last presidental election JVP/JHU/Mahinda appealed to those Sinhala Buddhist. And they proved that with the help of Sinhala Buddhist votes only a person can get elected. The JVP web site has more information said by Wimal Weerawansa.  

Lot of people in Sri Lanka talked about LTTE sympathizers. During the election Ranil was named as one of such fellows by Wimal Weerawansa. Anway today there was a report related assasination in Wellawatta. According to SL media the businessman called "Atlas Bala" who got killed by those came in the white van is a LTTE agent who live and work for LTTE. The media had quoted Sri Lanka Intelligence reports. They said this person is collecting money for LTTE in Colombo, He was providing shelter to LTTE killers in Colombo etc. I do not disagree with those reports. It was after CFA, this guy started this bus service from Wann to Colombo via Anuradapura - Puttalam road. He had seven buses and one of those responsible for killing (over running) a Catholic Priest in Katuneriya. But the culpits never paid the price. This same businessman build a hindu kovil in Chilaw-Colombo road on a estate formerly owned by a well known buddhist temple in Madampe area. His business involvment with LTTE was well known among those who live along the Colombo-Chilaw road for many years. But neither government of president Chandricka-JVP took no action against this "Atlas Bala". Kadirgama was killed and they did no action. The reason was that JVP/JHU/Chandricka was thinking Ranil and UNP was worst than LTTE. It was reported that this businessman had lot of connections with government officials including the police and armed forces.

Well the question is why didn't the police and the government do nothing to arrest this person. Why did not they monitor him. We know JHU targeted Lalith Kotalawala as a LTTE sympathyzer. But they did not say a single word about "Atlas Bala" WHY?  

Before the mad dog bite the man, we have to kill the mad dog... If rabies have no cure!!!!
But we have to carefully isolate . from the rest!!

Can't you see all these are events in one political arena. All are interdependent. LTTE survive just because of Sri Lankan politician and all most all the politicians depends on LTTE. If there are nobody to do , who is going to cover up the countries budget putting into defense.
Earlier JVP accuse UNP about “Ali-Koti”(elephant-tiger) pact and after the election UNP mentioned they are going to revealed JVP-Tiger pact. But this was not boom up. May be both are true.
Any way no one has a genuine motives toward the country and the people.
