Don't forget
This is SriLanka - not the US Laughing
in SriLanka 70%+ turnout with 60% for winner is still "divided"
in US 61% turnout with 50% or so for victor is enough to consider the place "united"
Poor Sri Lanka !!! No matter what she does, it is always worse than everyone else !!

The % results of the votes declared in Jaffna,Mullaithivu,Trincomalee and Batti
went for SF.
Rumor is rampant that the votes were rigged in other areas especially colombo
which Sri Lankans say should have gone for SF.If 'Poor srilanka' can give news of a well
run election campagn followed by absolutely no rumors of threats to life, murders and
intimidation, everyone today will be basking in the glory of a well run election without
intimidation.
Winners the takers and the loser if they wished come back again without having to
seek protection for their lives and their supporters.

Of course, TNA supported SF

There are others other than TNA supportes in Colombo. Some say mainly owing TNA support and especially the last minute Chandrika's addition alienated SF!

SLanka has seen more violent elections in the past.  Beside you can see violence in most of the election campaigns in third world countries (though I am not justifying election violence in Sri Lanka) and it is not peculiar to 'poor Sri Lanka".
Commonwealth Secretariat was monitoring election and they told the result of the elections broadly reflected the will of the people despite of violations.

I don't think so.. The country is more united than ever.. At least a segment of the Tamil
population participated in the election however flawed it may be. That is a sign of unity..
Granted it would have been great if there was more participation but we have to start
some where.

You are greatly outnumbered in your thinking. This election has already gone to the books as one of the most peaceful elections Sri Lanka had. You should stop looking so sour.

ofcourse it has gone into the books. How did it get in is being questioned.

'outnumbered in my thinking?'
yeah,--- by the votes declared by the gosl mechinary not by the elction commisioner.

what was the sad appeal by the election commisioner to the government thugs to let
him do his work and not to stress and intimiditate him and his workers?we hear he was kicked out of office
between 1-3 am on the 27th?

we saw the peacefull standing in line to vote.No thuggery there and in the polling booths.everyone saw
the photos splashed by the media.
The mayhem and the bullying started midnight after the peacefull went to bed and then was the take over.

we always said we are a peacefull lot also we are not a third world country.we do not beg from the west.
so why this drama after the 'peacefull polls'.

so we have the same past as per rigging and intimidation etc.
Karuna 's forces have vandalised the mayoress's office in Batti, mayoress in hiding and K hunting for her.
same pattern with SF.
Douglas voicing to retire for fear of MR.no place anywhere for him so he has to take the boat.
