UNP should be the clean moderate pro capitalist alternate party. JVP will always appeal to the class envious people and those who want free education and then jobs and demand everything from the government.

I will like to ask Comrade Somawansa Ameresinghe a few questions.
1. How many people did you send to their deaths for being UNPers or SLFPers during 1988/89
2. How did you make your money? Can you declare your assets?
3. Is it true you were given a reprieve and including murderous leaders like Bopage in 1994 only to get your support for CBK?
4.  Did the JVP kill that most kind compassionate leader named Vijaya Kumaratunge?
5. How much Gold and money did the JVP steal? More than the LTTE or less? Do you still have it?

I can live with General SF leading the UNP and making a good run at the election.  RW is hopeless. As Malik Samarawickremesinghe and Ravi Karunanayake told him "Sir it is very difficult to market you to the public".  His response "I know".

Poor fella cut a pathetic sorry figure when he was screeching "Poda Mahinda Poda Mahinda" and raising his arms like a cissy Ballerina. In contrast MR cut a powerful charismatic figure.  MR SPEAKS TAMIL and works hard to learn it. Give him credit.

Isn't the second term  to begin, like, after 2 more years ?

Yes, MR worked hard in the language department.
He spoke in Tamil at the UN. Credit to him
for trying hard to accomplish that. His legacy
depends now on winning the kind of peace that's
forward looking and beneficial.

It's a good start - dissolving parliament
Hopefully he takes advantage of his clear mandate and has the fortitude to cleanup the cabinet and government

The UNP is the alternate party. They can be Fiscally conservative and Socially liberal. Honestly, it's UNP that continue to speak of a political  solution to our National crisis. The UNP must have an alternate Charismatic leader and RW must be what Sonia Ghandhi is to Congress. Then, how can I explain that Manmohan Singh is the deeply respected PM of India, the man has no charisma as we perceive either, yet the whole world listens when he speaks, charisma or no charisma. Life is a paradox indeed.

We can't expect a political solution to our National question from  MR and his Jumbo Cabinet. As for MR even the 13th amendment is too much. So we can forget about reconciliation for the here and now, unless the SLFP contests the election, wins handsomely and push through Dr. Vitanas recommendations to take our country forward. If MR swings to the middle on the national Question, he will even get the UNP votes.

I applaud MR trying to learn and speak our other language in SL. Frankly, our Heads of States must be at least Bilingual, speaking Sinhala and Tamil.

As for the JVP, their viciousness was the response to Govt sponsored attacks on them. All sides, brought out the animal in them and the consequences to Mother Lanka was enormous. MR then protested in the UN and for this he was branded a " traitor ", a commonly used word in our lexicon.  Our hope is to learn from them and ensure we will take action to prevent the animal in us coming out.

And, a question, will MR take his Pres oaths two years from now, ensuring 08 years of Presidential Rule or will he take it now ensuring 06 years of Pres rule.
Does the constitution allow to do the former or will constitution be interpreted to do the former ?.

Harry must be adulterating his arrack, i am still having a head ache after all this.

Cheers.

Agree with your post.

When does the second term begin is for the constitutional experts to agree upon, i guess. Remember when CBK  took her oaths, rightfully so, the second time, only to find out that she had given up one year of her former mandate. On the other hand, one can't be taking his/her oaths as you please pushing the envelope.
Alas, we have the law and the spirit of the law. I hope that the " spirit of the law " will prevail.

Cheers.
