That’s good to note. The popular myth is that the arid conditions of the north from time immemorial made the Jaffna Tamils ( where they were the majority and never a minority) more industrious and also forced them to take to books.
Consequently the DNA responsible for “ industriousness” and “ good brains” was passed down from generation to generation.
The Buddhism has some effect on people not to seek money and power and be satisfy with what they have. That is why the .. are governing us, not the best and the brightest.
I've got number of relatives who have no interest in migrating and also making big money. They are happy with providing services for free than getting paid.
People are people everywhere and they tend to copy each others behavior. Recently I've listened to an interview of gangsters and drug dealers. They do it since that is the only thing they have seen growing up to make money. Once these kids are shown the right path, they realized they could become investment bankers as well. The Jewish people are financially successful for the same reason.
The security can be a problem of a nation or a group of people becoming industrious.
Two bright students from Sri Lanka were sharing a room doing their Graduate studies in USA. The Sinhalese student took a low risk path that made less money for him in the work place than his Tamil friend. When I asked the Sinhalese guy why he did not make an exceptional effort, his response was 'less' makes me happy. There is nothing wrong with that approach. The conflict is when one group is too ambitious and the other group is not.
My measure of someone having a strong financial stability is not richness, rather insecurity.
So, the rich people are the most insecure in the world.
