Post Organic nanochemistry: - 3 post doc and 1 PhD position
Postdoctoral position in Organic chemistry.

Three postdoctoral positions in the Department of Photochemistry and Molecular Science, Uppsala University, research groups of Drs. Magnus Anderlund, Olof Johansson, Sascha Ott within the “Swedish Consortium for Artificial Photosynthesis”:
Tentative starting date: July 1st, 2006 or later.
In the research groups of Drs. Magnus Anderlund, Olof Johansson and Sascha Ott there are three openings for postdoctoral fellows in synthetic projects with relevance to artificial photosynthesis. These include the synthesis of novel manganese complexes as water oxidation catalysts (JACS, 2005, 17504), the synthesis of novel Fe/S complexes as proton reduction catalysts (Angew. Chemie Int. Ed., 2004, 1006), the linkage of functional Mn and/or Fe complexes to ruthenium photosensitizers (Coord. Chem. Rev., 2005, 1653) and the development of new ruthenium complexes for artificial photosynthesis (Dalton Trans. 2006, 1434).

The successful applicant should have a strong background in synthetic organic chemistry, organometallic or inorganic chemistry, and an interest or even experience in electrochemistry and/or advanced spectroscopy (EPR, UV/Vis, IR). The positions are within the “Swedish Consortium for Artificial Photosynthesis” and thus offer great opportunities for multidisciplinary work and collaborations. The positions are for one year with the possibility to be prolonged for a second year. The groups have recently moved to a completely new, purpose-built house at the Ångstrom laboratories in Uppsala.

Applications to Dr. Sascha Ott no later than 2006-04-25.

The Organic chemistry PhD education programme comprises four years of full time studies, where research training (project planning, synthetic organic chemistry, characterisation of properties by various methods and scientific writing) is combined with a total of 1 year of courses on general as well as advanced organic chemistry and project-specific topics.

The successful candidate will receive a postgraduate fellowship the first year (14400 SEK/month) and a postgraduate position year 2-4 (18700-20900 SEK/month). The position might be combined with 10 – 20% of teaching asssistantship, which will then prolong the position accordingly.

Tentative starting date: September 1 2006.

To be eligible for a PhD position you should have a university degree in chemistry specializing in organic chemistry (at least BSc) and fulfill the entry requirements for the PhD programme. Important considerations in filling a PhD position are the scientific capability of the student. Since the nanochemistry field is highly interdisciplinary, interest in and experiences from disciplines traditionally outside the organic chemistry area are valuable.

Applications should include a brief description of undergraduate training, research interests and research experience, and a motivation of why the position is of interest. It should further include a filled in form (downloadable from http://www.org.kemi.uu.se/Aktuellt/Forskarutbildnings.shtm), brief curriculum vitae, an authorized copy of the undergraduate degree, and the names and contact information (address, email address, and phone number) of at least two referees. Relevant publications (including BSc/MSc thesis) should be enclosed as well as any additional documents you would like to include (e.g., TOEFL results)

For information concerning the research training, contact Prof. Helena Grennberg, helena.grennberg@kemi.uu.se

Applications to the study position not later than May 31 to:

   Eva Pylvänen
   Uppsala universitet
   Dept bioch and Organic Chemistry
   Box 576
   751 23 Uppsala.
