These guys are doing what they're supposed to, studying engineering at Wichita State University. That’s what Wevita Ranasiugue and Charita Madawela told the government they would do when they got their visas from Sri Lanka.
“The technology's pretty high in America,” Wevita says. “Everybody knows that. So that's one of the reasons we're here.”
The problem is thousands of other people with student visas aren't on campus, here in Wichita, or anywhere.
Sue Werle's one of 11 people at WSU who makes sure the students who say they're going to school here really are.
“Once they've been enrolled full-time and paid we enroll them in the SIVA system and report that they're doing what they're supposed to be doing,” Sue says.
